How To Follow A Kidney Diet

Discover the 5 things you have to do to follow a kidney diet.
Like everybody else with ESRD, Sue and Bill had no idea of what or how much Sue could eat. Sue was very frustrated that she couldn't eat anything. So Bill researched a kidney diet. He came up with a way to track Sue's diet .

With this information, they were able to prove that too much potassium was being removed. Sue's prescription was changed to remove less potassium, and she was prescribed potassium pills to take just before the end of dialysis.

Meet The Authors

Susan Emeny

I am a retired career software engineer with a BS in Math and a wide range of experience ranging from the development of: a heart monitor to radar imaging and business applications.
I was diagnosed with Kidney Failure in March of 2012 and started dialysis July 2012; I was required to follow a strict diet. Maintaining that diet proved to be difficult with the information provided by the medical profession. I threw up my hands, and after a lot of research by my husband Bill, began developing software to help maintain my diet

Bill Emeny

I have a degree from Syracuse University in electronic engineering and have been solving problems for 55 yearsThe most difficult problem I faced was when Sue, my wife, was diagnosed with Kidney Failure and needed to start dialysis.
I figured out the kidney diet and developed a method for tracking Sue's diet using a prototype database and spreadsheets.

I was her care partner for eight years and monitored her home dialysis sessions, did the grocery shopping, did the cooking and tracked her daily nutrition.

Every meal we would sit at the table with a scale and a laptop. We were very successful at maintaining her diet. In the eight years Sue was on a kidney diet, her labs were always within the required limits, and she felt good too!

What Others Are Saying...

Thanks for the book Sue. I found it very informative, well written and to the point. I’m looking forward to trying your recipes

Gary Haun, CKD Patient

I found it to be very informative and love the recipes!! I like how you advise advocating for oneself and not be afraid to discuss with MD. I think if folks take the initiative to follow your advice it will be so helpful to them. I think many lack the motivation and are not willing to go the extra miles that you and Bill did! If they are, this book is a fantastic starting point .

Deb Polmonteer, RN BSN Home Dialysis Nurse

You've taken a long term horrible situation and turned it into a saving grace book for others. I truly believe God hands out this crap to people he feels can turn it around and do something good with it.
